Matcha Garden is a cafe that clearly centers its identity around authentic Japanese-inspired matcha and hojicha treats, positioned on Albany Highway in the busy Victoria Park strip. It’s the kind of spot where matcha enthusiasts and dessert lovers come to explore nuanced flavours, from richly brewed ceremonial matcha drinks to carefully crafted sweets like the Matcha Choux and Matcha Lava Cake.

The atmosphere inside feels thoughtful but not overly formal. Spacious interiors can comfortably hold groups, making it a good place to catch up with friends or enjoy a calm solo break. The vibe balances the intimacy of a specialty cafe with enough room to avoid the bustle typical of Victoria Park’s more crowded corners. It’s a popular spot for locals craving a delicate, authentic matcha experience without the noise of a full restaurant or coffeehouse chain.

Menu offerings stand out for their variety and attention to pairing matcha with complementary Japanese flavours. You can expect to find inventive desserts like Kurogoma Basque Cheesecake or a matcha-and-hojicha tiramisu, along with drinks that blend matcha with hints of citrus or creamy kinako. The Matcha Experience Set is a highlight, ideal for those wanting to explore several preparations in one visit. While the sweetness level and flavour intensity can vary (some flavours like the Earl Grey matcha can be strong), the overall balance is carefully considered, attracting patrons who appreciate subtlety over overly sweet or heavy desserts.

Matcha Garden works well for afternoon visits, especially when you want a quiet place to relax after work or during weekends when crowds settle. The space’s calm and efficient service lends itself to lingering over a thoughtfully made matcha latte or savoring a matcha soufflé without feeling rushed. While the place has had occasional hiccups like slight flavour inconsistencies noted by some, the staff’s attentiveness and effort keep the experience pleasant.

If you’re someone who enjoys exploring Japanese tea culture reflected in desserts and speciality drinks, and you don’t mind a spot that’s steadily gaining popularity amid Victoria Park’s competitive cafe scene, Matcha Garden offers a steady, authentic dive into matcha flavours away from the usual coffee-centric cafes. It’s a niche but welcoming space that feels grounded in its local context and the particular taste preferences of matcha fans in Perth.

Drinks was good even their ceremonial matcha is so good.. The soufflé pancake had a distinct taste that I think might be from the oil they used. I’m not completely sure, but it seemed like the pancake picked up some flavor from reused oil or from the hot grill or pan they used. Aside from that, the drinks and other desserts were good, and overall everything was okay.

We ordered the black sesame banana hojicha, earl grey matcha, sweet potato cheesecake, and dango. The hojicha was delicious, the flavours didn’t over power each other and worked really well together. The matcha has a very strong earl grey flavour, in retrospect I would order it with less/no sugar to stop the earl grey for completely overpowering the matcha flavour. The sweet potato cheesecake was definitely an acquired taste but would highly recommend it, as well as the dango! Love finding places like this that hand whisk their matcha, definitely will be back.

Came by on Christmas Eve to satisfy my matcha cravings, ordered dirtiest matcha and matcha soufflé. The lady who made it mentioned that the usual person wasn’t in and she’d do her best and honestly, she did amazing! She apologised for how it looked, but wow… it tasted so good. The soufflé was soft and fluffy, the matcha cream was rich and thick, and the mochi with red bean + matcha ice cream was just absolutely delicious! You could really taste the care and effort put into it. Sometimes taste truly matters more than appearance. Thank you for putting your heart into it! It absolutely made my day.

This is a new addition to a very busy strip in Victoria Park with plenty of quality competition around. Uniquely Japanese offering here with beautifully presented drinks and desserts. Prices are reasonable and taste is on point. Interiors are spacious and able to accommodate larger groups. Service is efficient and we were happy with our first visit. Will recommend a visit here!

For all the matcha cafés I’ve tried in Perth, Matcha Garden is by far the best. I’ve explored other café shops, but I still can’t forget how authentic their matcha is and how incredibly good their desserts taste. Everything feels carefully made and true to real matcha flavor. Definitely a place worth recommending!

Just found my new favourite dessert spot! The matcha tiramisu is so creamy and delicious, and the pudding is super yummy too. The place has a simple, cute vibe - love it!

This place is amazing. I discovered it last week and have been here 3 times since. The vibe is nice, there is always a sweet smell to the air. The desserts feel like it they have been made with love. Natasha is an amazing and bubbly worker. She took time to explain the matcha experience to us which I will definitely try next time. She was patient when we took a while looking at the menu and even explained some of the desserts in detail to us. Please give her a raise! The matcha is smooth and so is the hojicha. The flavours are amazing and I cannot wait to try them all.

A one-stop spot for all things matcha! The drinks are delicious and the desserts are just as good. The matcha tastes authentic, and the atmosphere is lovely. Service was a little on the slow side, especially considering it wasn’t busy and our order was small, but overall still a great experience. Definitely planning to come back to try more..
